Three Perspectives of a Mustard Seed Mindset // SELFLESS Pt. 7 // John Pearse
Matthew 13:31-32
31 He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man planted in his field. 32 Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
Three Convictions of a Mustard Seed Mindset
1) Where we are matters - Wherever God has positioned us matters
Acts 1:8 says, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.”
(Emphasise locations) Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria to the ends of the earth.
1) Where we are matters
God wants to use you in the places he positions you to expand His kingdom on earth through you!
Great Commission in Matthew 28:29-20: “I will be with you, even unto the ends of the age”
The mustard seed mistake is believing that just because something is small, it can't become something big.
Many men owe the grandeur of their lives to their tremendous difficulties - Charles Spurgeon.
2) What we do matters - We need to realise that the little things we do are significant.
Matthew 25:21
“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
The World’s way of thinking is Corporate sacrifice for personal benefit; God’s kingdom is personal sacrifice for corporate benefit, most obviously displayed through Jesus.
3) Eternity matters
If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. C.S. Lewis
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
