The Second Coming of Jesus

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3 (NIV)

Plan as though Jesus is not returning for a hundred years and live as though Jesus is returning today.

A Tale of Talents

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming, for like a man travelling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. Matthew 25:13-14

1. A Departed King

The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. Matthew 25:14 (NLT)

2. Entrusted Stewards

Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. Matthew 25:14 (NIV)

Kingdom Stewardship

3. The Talents

Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. Matthew 25:14–15 (NIV)

4. The Servants

The servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free.’ Exodus 21:5 (NIV)

The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. Matthew 25:16–17 (NIV)

5. The Judgment

After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. Matthew 25:19 (NIV)

6. The Failure

Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 7. The Relationship
